So I found out that Orange have their hooks into me until July. I could wait until then when the HTC Desire will be relatively old news and available on most of the networks. However I'm contemplating getting my first Sim free phone and come my contract renew time getting a pay as you go sim or something.

Need to do some maths on it all really

Wow, Amazon can't make up there mind. Shortly after I posted the 350 deal with Mobile Phones Direct, I check Amazon and they had it at the same price, now it's back to 440 though....

Nice one Great as the Hero is, it being 1.5 (still) is quite a downer.

If you use a phone, then you would use the Desire's features. Your loss

If it was the choice of Desire over PS3, then fair enough.

These phones can do amazing things, I hardly ever use most of them either, but you'd be surprised sometimes these geeky things do come in handy.

Thinking about purchasing myself that PAYG HTC Desire McBain to unlock and run on my Orange contract.

How easy do you think it is really? Something I can do and not blow 350 quid by breaking it?

To get it unlocked? I would think it would be easy enough. Take a look here and the guy says its easy.

There is this thread though, some guy having issues.

You could play it safe and get an unlocked, unbranded for 390. The unlock code may be 10-15, so the difference is only really 25-30 I guess.

Right f*** it, I'm going for the unlocked, unbranded one and playing it safe. It's a chunk of money but I want to step up my online life and hopefully this is the tool. If I stay with Orange then I'll flog whatever free phone they give me as an upgrade. If I don't I figure I'll save by going SIM only contract with whoever.

Thanks for all you help McBain mate. I'll let you know how I get on for sure when Google plug me into the matrix

Woo hoo, one more for the Android Army

I'm really looking forward to hearing some figures in a month or two, the amount of people I know have switch to Android over the past 2 weeks is pretty massive. In the US they had the Droid that turned people, over here it's going to be the Desire.

I wonder if the Desire is available stateside? I wonder how it's going down?

I tend to just browse through the 'just in' part of the market to see what cool new stuff there is. There's actually an app called 'App aware' which in theory shows you the apps that are 'trending'.

Also, add a custom news title to the 'News and Weather' widget of 'Android' or even 'Android App' (or both, like me) and they often give you some good new apps on the market.

There is this site -

http://www.androlib.com/topofday.aspx

The ones with big plus numbers are supposedly being added a lot, but to be honest, most of these tend to be rubbish

We just need to keep the Great Android Apps thread up to date
